Robert Thompson and I made a lot of little painted wooden objects together over the years, We started out making traditional little portable Russian icons but went mad with boredom. We sold a lot of them just to get by and I’m still kicking myself but taking pictures of them as I come across them.
He’d sometimes draw them in pencil or carve them into wooden panels. I’d color them in. There were fancy recipes for french polish and there was a lot of cursing about tourists and cat hair.
